Paderborner Ingenieur Vs Silicon Valley Ventures
Jan’s little Fun Bio
Jan went from coding at age 4 on the German country side to co-founding a Silicon Valley startup in a Palo Alto garage, a robotics lab in South Korea and an autonomous car lab at UC Berkeley. He ran the Yahoo! foosball league, fixed espresso machines in Cal labs and was known throughout Germany for motivating vocational IT students with German chocolate during their exams. Jan also built a 350+ member strong grass-roots data science community and first AI prototypes at a multi-trillion dollar fund.
In between, he managed to get two Masters, most of a Phd, and cofounded a health-tech startup acquired by Apple.
More recently, Jan is moonlighting as fractional CTO & board member for up to 8 concurrent tech startups, coaching a dozen founders, and mentoring dozens of high potential data science/AI/startup individuals.
Jan happily lives in Newport Beach in Southern California with his son and wife, multiple surfboards and dozens of coffee gadgets. When he is not exploring the world through the eyes of his toddler, Jan spends most of his free time being active along/on the ocean or tinkering in his evil lair garage.
Less Fun Achievements
Taught cars to drive autonomously, drones to fly, robots to play soccer, and humans to code — on three continents. Deployed code on the most-visited internet page, built health tech that ships with every iPhone, issued most API calls on the biggest display advertising network and spearheaded AI for investment purposes at a trillion dollar fund. 40 years of coding, 35 years online development and 25 years theoretical and hands-on machine learning experience. Enjoy building and leading high-performance teams to tackle ‘impossible’ problems together – and solving them.
