The Business Angel Network OWL (BAN.OWL) was initiated in 2017 by garage33 and Sparkasse Paderborn-Detmold-Höxter. Since then, the capital requirements of start-ups in our region have increased continuously, which has led to a steady expansion of our network. Today, BAN.OWL comprises a strong community of investors, entrepreneurs and experts from banks and other sectors - both nationally and internationally. Our common goal is to build a sustainable network to promote the digital economy in Ostwestfalen-Lippe.
The network currently consists of over 120 investors. The highlight for start-ups and investors are the annual events such as Meet the Start-ups, the Digital Investment Pitch and the OWL Start-up Pitch. On February 12, 2025, we also invite you to the moonshots & moneten Start-up Summit in Paderborn. There, start-ups will once again have the opportunity to present themselves to over 120 investors as part of their fundraising activities.
The BAN.OWL network originated in the region. The network is now open to other investors.
We are happy to regularly welcome new investors to the network who want to network and regularly receive new information about our 60+ start-ups. Together, we strengthen start-ups from the region and support them in their international growth.
The aim of BAN.OWL is to achieve the best possible fit between investors and start-ups in OWL in order to strengthen the regional start-up ecosystem and thus also the regional economy. We develop the content, offers and events together with and based on the current needs of business angels in OWL.

BAN.OWL is aimed at experienced entrepreneurs from OWL who have already invested in start-ups with venture capital or have proven their aptitude for future business angel investments through their business activities.
The network was created against the background that qualified business angels are more in demand than ever in OWL. They finance innovations in the early stages, are prepared to bear the risk and invest their personal time in the young companies.
