Declaration on accessibility

This accessibility statement applies to the website www.tecup.de.

Declaration on accessibility

As part of Paderborn University, we endeavor to make our website accessible in accordance with the provisions of the Disability Equality Act (BGG) and the Barrier-free Information Technology Ordinance (BITV 2.0). The requirements result from the BITV 2.0, which is based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1) Level AA.

Accessibility status

This website is partially accessible. The requirements of WCAG 2.1 Level AA are not yet fully met. The continuous improvement of accessibility is an important concern for us.

The assessment of accessibility was carried out as part of a self-assessment.

Non-accessible content

The following areas or content are not (yet) fully accessible for the reasons mentioned:

  1. PDF documents: Some older PDF documents are not completely barrier-free. We are working on successively revising these or offering accessible alternatives.

  2. Videos without subtitles/audio description: Some videos may not yet have full subtitles or audio descriptions. We are looking into retrofitting or providing transcripts.

  3. Complex graphics/tables: Some graphics or complex tables may not be optimized for screen readers. We are in the process of providing these with appropriate alternative texts or more accessible formats.

  4. Form fields: Certain form fields may not provide sufficient troubleshooting or label for assistive technologies. This will be fixed in future updates.

  5. Alt texts: Some older image files in particular are not yet provided with alt texts and are therefore not optimized for screen readers. This will be successively revised.

  6. Navigation elements: Some navigation elements are not optimized for the use of keyboard navigation.

Reasons for the partial lack of accessibility

In some cases, remedying the deficiencies mentioned involves disproportionate effort. This applies in particular to content that was created before the current BITV 2.0 came into force or which, due to its scope and complexity, can only be made accessible at a later date with considerable human and financial resources. However, we strive to continuously improve accessibility and are constantly reviewing feasibility.

Measures to improve accessibility

We use the plugin "Ally by Elementor" to improve the basic accessibility of our website. This plugin offers functions such as:

  • Adjustment of text size and contrast

  • Grayscale and high contrast mode

  • Hiding images

  • Pausing animations

  • Reading aid and focus highlighting

  • Improvement of keyboard navigation

These functions support users in customizing the display and help to reduce common barriers. However, it should be noted that "Ally by Elementor" plays a supporting role and that a manual check and, if necessary, further adjustments are required for full BITV compliance.

We are committed to the following further measures:

  • Regular review and auditing of the website for accessibility.

  • Prioritization of the elimination of identified barriers.
